HOW TO GET TO CANADA
Every year Canada welcomes immigrants from all over the world.
Ottawa is the capital of Canada. It mirrors the diversity of this vast and beautiful country. Formerly called Byward Town, named after Col. John By who founded Ottawa in 1827, just across the Ottawa, is at the mouth of the Gatineau River, forms part of the metropolitan area. The Rideau Canal separates the city into upper and lower towns. It lies in the southeastern corner of Ontario along the banks of three rivers: the Ottawa, Gatineau and Rideau. Ottawa is also the financial, business and scientific research capital of the country with more than 1,800 technology companies.
OTTAWA EDUCATION
Ottawa is credited as the Research Capital of Canada. It has more residents with post-secondary education than any other region in Canada. It also has over 9,000 residents with Doctorate and Post Doctorate degrees. There are also a few new online schools offered in the Ottawa area.
Ottawa has a number of schooling options for its citizens, these include
1. Ottawa-Carleton District School Board
2. Ottawa-Carleton Catholic School Board
3. French Public School Board (Conseil Des Ecoles Publiques de L'Est de l'Ontario)
4. French Catholic School Board (Conseil Scolaire de District Catholique de Centre-Est de l'Ontario)
5. Ottawa Separate School Board
6. Chinese School
7. Private Schools
CANADIAN MUSEUMS
Canada is an ideal multicultural country. A harmony of culture is seen in every city of Canada. Ottawa has a number of museums that show the culture and history of Canada. A brief introduction of some musems in Ottawa is given here;
Canada Museum of civilization: 100 Laurier Street, Gatineau, Quebec K1A 0M8
Learn about the country in detail as you are captivated by the arrival of the Vikings, then the history of today’s Canada. A children’s museum, a postal museum along with an Imax theatre keeps you roaming at this place for a long time. A must visit for young and old alike.
Canada Museum of Nature: 240 McLeod Street, Ottawa,
Mother Nature will be overwhelmed as at least people are making an effort to understand her. How life started, how man evolved, why dinosaurs got extinct, how do their fossils look like, how to preserve birds and mammals by taxidermy and to take a close look at the creepy crawlies. All this and more at the Nature Museum.
National Gallery of Canada: 380 Sussex Drive, Ottawa, K1N 9N4
1000s of contemporary and modern art in a granite crystal palace exhibited. A scenic view of the Parliament Hall and a stroll in the garden laden with the flowerbeds and the tree groves, visit the gallery for its sheer exuberance.
Canada Aviation Museum: 11 Aviation Parkway, Ottawa, Ontario, K1K 4R3
Display of about 115 full-size replicas of aero planes. Planes of all generations are remodeled here. Aviation Museum is one of the most visited museums in Ottawa.
Canada Science and Technology Museum: 1867 St Laurent Blvd. Ottawa, Ontario K1G 5A3, CANADA
Have a knack for scientific things..? Then, bring out the geek inside you by enjoying at this fun-filled museum. Hitch a ride on a steam locomotive, or just mess up in the Krazy kitchen. The choice is yours, as the technology of decision-making lies in your hands.
Canada War Museum: 1 Vimy Place Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0M8
A museum dedicated to the braves who colored the soil with their blood. The exhibits on display speak a language of its own – with all the weaponry and uniform’s et al.
OTTAWA WEATHER
Ottawa lies farther north than Toronto, resulting in significantly colder winters. Unlike many of Ontario's cities, Ottawa does not sit on the shores of Lake Ontario. This results in higher summer temperatures in Ottawa but increases the harshness of the winters. Ottawa has a semi-continental climate, with a warm, humid summer and a very cold winter.
Winters in Ottawa are severe. Snow depths of greater than 1 cm are seen on about 120 days each year compared with about 65 days in Toronto. Much greater depths of snow are also found in Ottawa than Toronto.
Ottawa, like other cities in Ontario, enjoys a sunny climate. Summers usually have a generous number of warm or hot sunny days. Winters are rather less sunny than in the prairie cities of Calgary and Winnipeg.
Ottawa's day to day weather can be changeable throughout the year.
